Good and Bad News

Dear Coalition,

The Senate unanimously passed S.1723 the Truth and Healing Commission on the Boarding Schools but the bad news is that it was not taken up by the HOUSE before the session ended. Both S.1723 and HR 7227 are now dead.



The new House was sworn in and we can only imagine what the chances are of the bill being reintroduced. We can push for that in the days ahead.

The good news is that Biden has accomplished many things for Indian Country that cannot be undone AND proclaimed the establishment of the Carlisle Federal Indian Boarding School National Monument. This gives recognition and acknowledgment to the story of Native peoples in Pennsylvania past and present.
